Imprint of nothing

Acrylic paint on paper, 2015-2017

To get the imprint of nothing, Garketch simply places paint between two completely smooth flat surfaces without any engraving or drawing. A slight pressure is exerted between the two surfaces, the surfaces are then separated; the depression and the viscosity of the paint spontaneously create patterns.

With this simple gesture Garketch summons forces originating the forms of the universe. Elaborate forms emerge, recalling the patterns found in nature, the shape of rivers, lightnings, branches or roots, crystal dendrites, corals. By this artistic gesture, the artist puts the virtuosity of creation back into the hands of the laws of physics.
